A symposium at Al-Karkh University of Science on supporting the file of the Iraqi marshlands
College of Remote Sensing and Geophysics organized a scientific symposium on the future visions to support the Iraqi marshlands, in the presence of a number of researchers and specialists from Iraqi universities.
It was discussed at the symposium the violations of the geological works on the environment of the marshes and the repercussions of oil explorations, in addition to the environmental threats to the biodiversity of the marshes and highlighted the importance of the species.
The symposium aims to support the file of the marshes of Iraq as a natural reserve within the World Heritage List by reviewing the steps taken by the relevant authorities in the marshlands and discussing future visions that support the sustainability of the marshes.
The symposium was preceded by several recommendations, the most important of which is the necessity of establishing a national authority to revive the marshes, and that the academic institution (the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research) should play an active role in it and with the participation of civil society organizations to ensure that the marshes are flooded with freshwater, and Keep away from the treatment of the lack of water ration of polluted salty water.
