
Al-Karkh University of Science signs a cooperation agreement with the University of Basra.
With the aim of strengthening and developing scientific, academic, and research cooperation, Al-Karkh University of Science, represented by the University President, Professor Jumaa Salman Jiyad, and the University of Basra, represented by its President, Professor Muhannad Jawad Kadhim, signed a memorandum of understanding on Wednesday evening, May 14, 2025. The agreement covers cooperation in the areas of information exchange, curricula, scientific research, and academic activities.
The agreement aims to develop and increase mutual cooperation between the two universities in all scientific, research, and technical fields, establish a joint working relationship to advance education, organize training workshops for faculty and students, encourage cooperation in the field of joint academic supervision, and allow for the exchange of university professors to conduct joint scientific research and deliver lectures in their fields of specialization. The memorandum also includes cooperation in the areas of academic accreditation, quality assurance, and the exchange of expertise between the two universities to enter international rankings, in addition to holding joint cultural and scientific activities in various fields.
During the signing ceremony of the cooperation agreement, the President of Al-Karkh University of Science, Professor Jumaa Salman Jihad, stated: “The importance of the agreement with the University of Basra lies in its efforts to raise Al-Karkh University of Science’s ranking, open horizons for scientific exchange and cooperation with established universities to achieve sustainable development goals, especially prestigious Iraqi universities, and establish a true partnership that works to develop scientific and research capabilities.” He explained that scientific cooperation under this agreement guarantees the two parties the organization of joint scientific events and programs.
For his part, the President of the University of Basra, Professor Dr. Muhannad Jawad, welcomed the President of Al-Karkh University of Science, praising the level of education in Iraq and the inclusion of Iraqi universities in international rankings for global publication.
The two parties agreed to sign executive programs, based on their desires and available capabilities, to determine the mechanisms and details for implementing the provisions of this agreement. In addition, both parties pledged to provide support to those participating in the work programs by providing them with the information and facilities required for cooperation in accordance with the laws in force in the country.
