Al-Karkh University of Science launches a tree-planting campaign for a sustainable green environment
Under the patronage of the university president, Professor Jumaa Salman Jihad, a tree-planting campaign was organized at the university’s second campus (Abu Ghraib). The campaign, in cooperation with the Horticulture Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, involved planting various tree, shrub, rose, and sedge seedlings in the university gardens. The campaign aims to achieve sustainable development goals and increase green spaces for a healthy and clean environment. This initiative coincides with the Prime Minister’s initiative to plant five million trees and palm trees and implements the plan of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
This initiative aims to increase the area of green spaces at the university, restore and protect natural forests, and pay greater attention to restoring cultivated and desertified areas and planting new green spaces.
This initiative represents an opportunity for national participation in preserving and sustaining nature and encouraging interest in planting trees and plants in Iraq to improve and increase oxygen levels, reduce pollution, and mitigate climate change, which the country has been suffering from, especially in recent years, and which has negatively impacted lifestyles.
Professor Juma Salman emphasized the continuation of these initiatives, considering them important strategies for improving the university environment and providing financial and moral support to those in charge.
