Al-Karkh University of Science organizes a lecture on climate change and Corona virus
Under the patronage of the Chancellor of Al-Karkh University of Science, Professor Dr. Thamir A. A. Hassan, the online platform in cooperation with the Center for Continuing Education of Al-Karkh University of Science organized a lecture entitled
"Covid19Vs Climate Change"
The lecture presented by Dr. Ibrahim Al-Sudani, Head of the Department of Environmental Science in the Energy and Environmental Science at Al-Karkh University for Science, included an explanation of climate change and its causes with regard to changes in climate rates and patterns due to natural and human causes in addition to natural changes and the impact of human activity. The main factors that affecr climate change are pollution Chemical, freshwater depletion, loss of biodiversity, erosion of the ozone layer, and land use change.
The lecture included the relationship between the spread of Coronavirus and climate change, as the spread of the virus caused a complete lockdown of the life facilities of most of the world's population, which helped to reduce the proportion of nitrogen dioxide, which is known to cause health harm to humans and the environment. The lecture included the presentation of data on the low levels of nitrogen dioxide emissions during the period of the epidemic of corona. On the other hand, the lecture showed that research studies have proven that environmental pollution increases coronavirus spread.
The lecture aims to explain the relationship of environmental pollution and the Coronavirus, and how the global total lockdown has led to a significant decrease in nitrogen dioxide emissions in several countries in the world, especially in Europe and China.
