
Al-Karkh University of Science Organizes a Lecture on Cyber Blackmail
Under the patronage of the University President, Professor Jumaa Salman Jihad, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Remote Sensing and Geophysics, Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Abbas Hassan, the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit at the College of Remote Sensing and Geophysics, in cooperation with the University’s Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Department, and in collaboration with the Community Police Directorate/Salihiya Community Police Station, delivered an awareness lecture on cyber blackmail and cybercrime. The lecture was presented by Colonel Mohammed Rashid Ibrahim in the Martyrs’ Hall at the university’s first campus, Haifa Street. The lecture was attended by a number of professors, researchers, and students.
The lecture included a discussion of the concept of cyber-extortion, its types, how it occurs, its physical and moral causes, its negative effects and the harm it inflicts on the victim, the most important preventative methods and recommendations to reduce this crime and avoid falling into the trap of cyber-extortion, the position of Iraqi law and judiciary on the crime of cyber-extortion, and the role of security agencies, particularly (community police), in dealing with the crime of cyber-extortion to prevent and limit it in accordance with the law. The seminar aimed to highlight the importance of community awareness and the role played by educational institutions in combating these phenomena, in addition to promoting a culture of cybersecurity among students.
The participants expressed their thanks and gratitude to the Community Police delegation for providing awareness lectures that serve youth and adolescents, reflecting the growing interest in awareness programs that contribute to building an informed and healthy generation.
