
Al-Karkh University of Science organizes a symposium on Iraqi women and politics.
Under the patronage of the President of Al-Karkh University of Science, Prof. Juma Salman Jihad, the Women’s Affairs Division, along with the Diwan Affairs Department, in cooperation with the Center for Continuing Education, organized a symposium entitled “Iraqi Women and Politics: Awareness. Participation. Influence.” The symposium was attended by a number of faculty members and female university staff.
The symposium included a lecture by M.M. Jenan Abdul Hassan Hamza, a faculty member in the Diwan Affairs Department, on the role of Iraqi women in political life and their historical journey through participation in decision-making alongside men. The lecture highlighted the challenges they face in this field and ways to enhance their role at various levels.
The symposium featured a presentation that discussed women’s awareness of their rights, particularly political rights, their participation in elections and their access to leadership positions, as well as their role and impact in shaping public policy.
The participants emphasized the importance of spreading political culture among women and encouraging them to actively engage in both public and political life, given the significant impact this has on achieving comprehensive development and strengthening democracy.
At the conclusion of the symposium, the lecturer recommended the need to support training programs targeting women and amend some policies to facilitate women’s access to decision-making positions.
