
Al-Karkh University of Science organizes an educational and awareness lecture on “Pulmonary and Extrapulmonary Tuberculosis”
The Continuing Education Department at Al-Karkh University of Science, in cooperation with the Chest Diseases and Tuberculosis Unit in Al-Karkh Sector affiliated to the Ministry of Health, organized an awareness and educational lecture on “Pulmonary Tuberculosis” in the presence of a group of members of the teaching and administrative staff at the university.
The lecture aims to educate participants about communicable diseases, including pulmonary tuberculosis, its danger to society, and the necessity of avoiding it for the safety of individuals and society.
The lecturer from the Chest Diseases and Tuberculosis Unit in Al-Karkh Sector in Baghdad, Dr. (Ali Al-Bayati), gave a lecture on the disease and how the infection is transmitted, where he explained that the cause of the disease is infection with bacteria (Koch’s bacilli), adding that tuberculosis is divided into two types: pulmonary tuberculosis and extrapulmonary tuberculosis.
The lecturer also explained that the disease is transmitted through the respiratory system, and signs of the disease appear, such as loss of appetite, persistent coughing for more than two weeks without responding to treatment, and weight loss, which are detected through clinical examination, tests, and cultures. He called on community members to visit the chest diseases and tuberculosis unit in health centers and hospitals to conduct the necessary tests for the purpose of preventing this disease.
