
Al-Karkh University of Science Participates in an Awareness Evening on the Environment and Climate Change
A delegation from Al-Karkh University of Science headed by Dr. Thamer Abdulameer Hasan participated in an awareness evening regarding the environment and climate change, organized by the Revival of Civilization Organization for Heritage and Culture, in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, and with the wide participation of students from the faculties of Al-Karkh University of Science, and in the presence of His Excellency the Minister of Environment, Eng. Nizar Amidi, and the Undersecretary Dr. Jassim Al-Falahi, Technical Adviser to the Prime Minister for Energy Affairs, Dr. Maher Johan, Deputy Minister of Planning, and Dr. Mithaq Al-Khafaji, Deputy Minister of Agriculture, in addition to a large number of members of parliamentary committees, teachers from various universities, environmental activists and influencers.
The evening's themes included many themes, the most important of which are climate changes, water scarcity, desertification, deterioration of agricultural lands, dust and sand storms, climate change, national security, biodiversity, uses of renewable energies, and rational management of waste and pollution.
His Excellency the Minister of Environment said in a speech during the evening that Iraq today faces great environmental challenges represented by climate changes, high rates of temperature, drought, desertification, land degradation, dust storms, and increased pollution rates resulting from the decline of infrastructure due to decades of wars and instability and confronting terrorist challenges, stressing the need to double the national effort represented by government institutions, relevant authorities and civil society organizations to improve a better environmental reality.
For his part, Dr. Thamer stressed in a speech during the dialogue session that the pillars of success require good planning and adequate financing as well as authority, calling for the need to pay attention to the great environmental problems facing future generations.
Dr. Thamer added that "the voice of youth demanding change is the basis for finding a solution to those problems that affect the economic, environmental and social situation in Iraq."
Dr. Ibrahim Al-Sudani, from the College of Energy and Environmental Sciences at Al-Karkh University of Science, demanded the necessity of establishing a youth council of students of specialized colleges and activists interested in the environmental field, as they are energies that can bring about change.
At the end of the evening, the President of the University accompanied His Excellency the Minister of Environment in the art exhibition organized by the students of Al-Karkh University of Science, using waste recycling.
