
Al-Karkh University of Science participates in the International Conference on Research and Protection of Archaeological Heritage
The faculty member and the head of the Geophysics Department at Al-Karkh University of Science Dr. Akil Al-Zubaidi participated in a scientific research at the Second International Conference on Research and Protection of Archaeological Heritage in Iraq (ICRPAHI), which was organized by the University of Kufa and sponsored by the Universities of Pennsylvania, Chicago, Cambridge and Oxford with extensive local and international participation.
The conference included several features on cultural heritage and its protection mechanisms, through conservation strategies and the presentation of general effects. Archaeological research in southern Iraq has witnessed dynamic growth. The new excavations have already changed the scientific community's view of the origins of civil life in Mesopotamia, the social history of the Mesopotamia between the fourth millennium and the year 3000 BC, the end of the slave period, and the end of the third Ur dynasty.
The aim of the conference is to study Mesopotamian civilization in several aspects, including: art, architecture and civilization, the promotion and development of sustainable tourism near the archaeological sites to provide employment opportunities for local people and the protection of sites, and the use of scientific techniques to explore the Mesopotamian past, especially Cartography and geo-geography.
