The Iraqi delegation headed by Vice Chancellor for administrative affairs Prof. Dr. Raid nofi, participated in the International Forum of Space 2016 which was hosted by the city of Trento, Italy, with the participation of more than 50 international agencies for space science including (IAF, NASA, IAA, ASI, etc.) as well as a group of Arabs and foreigners experts and academics.
Dr. Nofi expressed his pleasure of Iraq’s participation in the forum in spite of the brutal wars that the country fought against terrorism and ISIS, but that did not prevent Iraq’s interest in the subject of Space and Astronomy through the establishment of scientific departments in the subject of space science and remote sensing in number of Iraqi Universities.
The forum discussed three main topics: climate change, processing and managing information and earth protection and safety from natural disasters and threats from outer space. And for its part, the Iraqi delegation suggested a proposal to solve the problem of data management that is to enhance the partnership among the Universities and Academies within the international strategic agreements and to provide a free and open access to obtain data and astronomical observations and solar events and images in order to be studied and analyzed by Iraqi researchers and academics.
At the end of the forum, Dr. Nofi and the accompanied delegation expressed their appreciation to the Italian Minister of Higher Education and the Preparatory Commission for the forum for inviting them to participate in the forum.
