Al-Karkh University of Science participates in the scientific symposium on the environmental challenges of the Marshlands of southern Iraq
The Chancellor of Al-Karkh University of Science, Dr. Thamir A. Hassan participated in the scientific symposium on the environmental challenges of the Marshlands of southern Iraq. The symposium was held by Center of Research and Museum of Natural History at University of Baghdad.
Dr. Thamir said “the file of marshes is one of the most important files and we must find solutions to their problems and challenges as an important port of Iraq in terms of economic, environmental and tourism”.
He added “caring for the Marshlands people and preserving their cultural environment, traditions, way of living and local industries will ensure that these areas remain in the World Heritage List, and protect these areas from the dangers of exceeding Iraq's water allocations”.
It recalls that the UNCECO has chosen the Iraqi marshland within the World Heritage List. Therefore, the United Nations undertake to protect he marshes for future generations, and that watersheds will remain stable and monitored under international agreements, while the projects will be funded to indigenous people, and turning the marshes into a tourist destination for tourists from all over the world.
