
Al-Karkh University of Science strengthens its position in the Spanish Scimago Ranking for 2025
Al-Karkh University of Science has achieved a new academic achievement by re-entering the Spanish Scimago Ranking for 2025, which evaluates the performance of universities globally according to the criteria of scientific research, innovation, and societal impact.
Al-Karkh University of Science ranked 35th out of 67 Iraqi universities and colleges in the Research Rank, reflecting the university’s continued growth in publishing scientific research in the Scopus database.
The university also ranked 59th in the Overall Ranking, 56th in the Innovation Ranking, and 58th in the Societal Ranking. Based on the above data, the university was ranked among the third quartile of universities worldwide.
The Spanish Scimago Ranking is one of the most prestigious international academic rankings. It is based on a composite index that combines three main criteria:
- Scientific research (50%), which is based on the number of published research papers, the quality of scientific journals, the number of citations, and impact factors.
- Innovation (30%), which measures innovation outputs and their academic and industrial impact.
- Societal impact (20%), which is evaluated based on the university’s contribution to society and the impact of its research on development.
The ranking requires the publication of at least 100 scientific papers in the Scopus database during the evaluation year, reflecting the university’s commitment to achieving standards of academic and research excellence.
