
Al-Karkh University of Sciences organizes a workshop on electronic extortion
The Department of Student Activities at Al-Karkh University of Science organized a workshop on electronic blackmail in cooperation with the Directorate of Community Police in the Ministry of Interior and Al-Ghad Ajmel Organization under the patronage of the President of Al-Karkh University of Science.
The aim of the workshop is to raise the awareness of the students and the affiliates about the methods used by these gangs to victimize the victims, protect the social networking sites and secure them from hacking, as well as to show them the procedures to be followed during the time of being extorted or hacked.
The workshop included a lecture by the director of the Center for Community Police Studies, Hussain Amer Al-Rubaie, in which he defined the nature of cybercrime and its crimes, such as blackmail, threats, defamation and other crimes that have a negative impact on society, civil peace, and the cohesion of the family fabric.
He also explained how a person would react if he was blackmailed or threatened by the use of modern technology, such as social networking sites, and the importance of communicating with the police to provide assistance and help.
For his part, the president of Al-Ghad Ajmel Organization, the lawyer Hussein Fadel Al-Tamimi that conventional crimes was easy to deal with, and electronic crimes and the crime of extortion in particular is one of the most serious crimes in modern times and requires a double effort in dealing with them, adding that the traditional crime began to decline and that makes of cybercrime to increase in all areas, describing it as extremely serious crimes because of its psychological repercussions on the victim, and its extended and comprehensive impact.
The students and the attendees appreciated the role of the community policing in preserving the security and safety of the citizens and its keenness to raise awareness and educate them on these subjects, which ensures the safety and the achievement of their personal and community safety. Some recommendations were suggested and the most prominent of these were holding meetings, workshops and lectures dealing with such topics, spreading awareness to the diffident segments of community such as students and parents at different ages in order to alert of such crimes and making them aware of the use of the means of reading and audio-visual awareness.
