
Dr. Al-Suhail, International Organizations in Academic Cooperation
During a meeting with a number of representatives of international organizations and donor countries, His Excellency, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Qusay Al-Suhail reviewed the horizons of joint cooperation in the field of education and higher education.
Dr. Al-Suhail praised exerted efforts of the international organizations and donor countries,
His Excellency highlighted the importance of coordination between the Ministries of Higher Education and Education with the international organizations and donor countries to intensify efforts to modify the programs to match the governmental program related to the work of the two Ministries.
Dr. Al-Suhail stressed on the need for mutual work, providing an appropriate platform to accommodate the programs and aligning them with the two Ministries, which are derived from the government program.
His Excellency also reviewed a part of the programs offered by the international organizations and countries.
Dr. Al-Suhail directed the need to find a method to match the mentioned programs with the government program related to the work of the two Ministries,
His Excellency included reviewing the need to accommodate proposed future programs during the current government as well as how the programs will accommodate the platform of the two Ministries.
Dr. Al-Suhail added that the meeting recommended organizing a monthly meeting between the Minister with the representatives of the international organizations and donor countries in order to follow up the implemented steps in this regard.
His Excellency recommended forming a higher committee between the Ministries of Higher Education and Education with representatives of the international organizations and donor countries in order to coordinate efforts and follow up the implementations of the programs and projects of the two sides.
It is worth mentioning that the meeting was held in the University of Baghdad as well as attended by representatives of UNESCO, UNICEF, World Bank, European Union, French Embassy in Baghdad, British Council, American Aid Organization, World Food Program, Canadian University Services Administration, senior officials from Ministry, Director of UNICEF in Iraq, Mrs. Hamida Lasseko, Coordinator of the UNICEF, Mrs. Cleopatra Chippiro, Director of the UNESCO Office in Iraq, Mr. Paolo Fontani, UNESCO Educational Programs Specialist, Mr. Rory Robertsho, Responsible for educational programs in the organization, Ms. Ghada Gergie, Director of the World Bank in Iraq, Mr. Kamal Braham, Program Educational Adviser, Ms. Rima Sawaid, Data Systems Specialist, Mr. Adel Jalloul, EU Director for Development and Coordination for Iraq and Yemen, Mr. Augusto Piccagli and Director of the EU Program in Iraq, Ms. Ghada Hamid.
The meeting was also attended by Director of the British Council’s Education Program, Mr. Ammar Tariq, Assistant Program Manager, Mrs. Mariam Medhat, Senior Coordinator, USAID, Mr. Christopher Snipes, Also present were WFP Assistant Director, Mr. Marian Ward, French Embassy member in Baghdad, Jean-Noel Baleo, WUSC Program Manager, Mr. Malcolm Toland and Assistant Program Manager, Mr. Osamah Mohammed.
The meeting was attended by Ministry’s Deputy for Scientific Research Affairs, Dr. Fouad Qassim Mohammed, Ministry’s Deputy for Legal and Administrative Affairs and, Dr. Hamid Khalaf, Director of Supervision and Scientific Evaluation, Dr. Nabeel Hashim Al-Araji and Director General of Studies, Planning and Follow-up, Dr. Ehab Naji Abbas.
