In a Spiritual and Solemn Atmosphere… Al-Karkh University of Science Holds a Mourning Assembly for Imam Hussein (Peace Be Upon Him)
Amid an atmosphere filled with sorrow and faith, and under the patronage and presence of the President of Al-Karkh University of Science, Professor Dr. Jumaa Salman Jiyad, the university organized a mourning assembly for Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) on the occasion of the holy month of Muharram, with a large attendance of university staff.
The assembly commenced with the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an, followed by a speech delivered by the University President, Prof. Dr. Jumaa Salman Jiyad. In his address, he highlighted the heroism of Imam Hussein (PBUH) and the martyrs of Karbala, emphasizing the necessity of following their path and values. He further underlined the university’s commitment to such religious occasions that nurture the spiritual dimension of the individual and reinforce the stance against injustice wherever it exists.
Dr. Jiyad also stressed the importance of adhering to the approach of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them), who sacrificed their lives for noble principles and values, and for upholding the word of truth. He affirmed that Imam Hussein’s revolution was, and continues to be, a revolution of reform across all times and places—urging everyone to follow this reformative path.
The program also included a religious lecture delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Aqeel Mahmoud Ali, who spoke about the Hussaini revolution as a school of freedom and human dignity. He shed light on the life of Imam Hussein (PBUH) and the lessons of sacrifice, altruism, and resistance against tyranny embodied in his legacy. He emphasized that Ashura is not merely a historical event but a perpetual project of reform, a revolution of devotion to religion and truth, aiming to establish divine justice and uphold Islamic and human values.
The assembly concluded with the honoring of the Qur’an reciter by the University President, in recognition and appreciation of his service to the Holy Qur’an.
