On its 45th anniversary, Al-Karkh University of Science organizes a solidarity vigil to mark Faylee Martyr’s Day.
Under the patronage of the President of Al-Karkh University of Science, Prof. Juma Salman Jiyad, and with the supervision and follow-up of the Dean of the College of Remote Sensing and Geophysics, Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Abbas Hassan, a solidarity vigil was held at Al-Karkh University of Science’s first campus on Haifa Street to mark Faylee Martyr’s Day. A number of faculty members, affiliates, and students attended the event.
The event included a moment of silence and a recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, followed by the recitation of Surat Al-Fatihah for the souls of the martyrs of the Faylee component and the martyrs of Iraq. A photo exhibition also commemorated their patriotic stances, highlighting their suffering and displacement under previous dictatorial regimes.
In his speech, Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Abbas Hassan spoke about the Faylee Kurdish brothers, recalling their great sacrifices and the injustice and persecution they faced during previous eras, as well as the suffering they endured in order to preserve their identity and belonging to their homeland.
He also spoke about their role in building the new Iraq, considering them a fundamental and integral component of the Iraqi people, particularly in the economic, cultural, and social spheres. This is due to their significant role in trade with neighboring countries and their literary, cultural, and artistic contributions. Among them are prominent writers, poets, and intellectuals who have influenced intellectual and scientific life, playing a significant role in spreading education and establishing schools and cultural clubs.
