
The College of Remote Sensing and Geophysics at Al-Kharkh University of Sciences held a symposium on post-graduation ideas with the participation of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Central Iraq Chapter.
Under the patronage of the President of Al-Kharkh University of Sciences, Professor Juma Salman Jihad, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Abbas Hassan, the College of Remote Sensing and Geophysics at Al-Kharkh University of Sciences held a scientific symposium entitled “Post-Graduation Prospects for College Students: Opportunities and Challenges” “Beyond Graduation—Insights From Industry Professionals to
Get Ahead, Get Funded, and Get Hired.” The symposium was attended by Dr. Karim Alwan, President of the SPE Central Iraq Chapter, and with the active participation of the SPE Central Iraq Chapter. Representatives from Baghdad University, the University of Technology, Karbala University, and Al-Naji University were also in attendance, as were a number of college professors, graduates, and prospective graduates.
The symposium aimed to highlight practical steps students can take after graduation, in addition to discussing job opportunities, graduate study possibilities, and entrepreneurship in the fields of remote sensing and geophysics, as well as the petroleum sector.
The symposium included two lectures presented by representatives of the SPE Association. Engineer Baraa Al-Zubaidi delivered the first lecture, titled:
“From Local Impact to Global Opportunity: Build Your Career in Oil & Gas—From the Other Perspective,” while Engineer Ahmed Hashem delivered the second lecture, titled:
Bridging the Gap: Insights for Aligning Academic Outcomes with International Oil Companies Job Market Demands.
They discussed their personal experiences and how they applied them to their professional lives. They also discussed the possibility of engaging graduates in specialized training programs in collaboration with relevant companies and institutions through scholarship and fellowship programs.
The two speakers emphasized the importance of building bridges of communication between students and graduates, on the one hand, and the local and international labor market, on the other, through joint scientific and cultural events. This initiative comes as part of the college’s efforts to enhance its pioneering role in supporting students and preparing them for the job market, linking academic and practical aspects through partnerships with specialized international organizations.
