The Minister of Higher education and Scientific research and a number of Presidents of Iraqi universities meet the Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives
The Minister of Higher education and Scientific research Dr. Abdul Razak Abdul Jalil al-Issa and a number of Presidents of Iraqi universities including the Chancellor of Al-Karkh University of Science Prof. Dr. Thamir Abdul Ameer Hassan met the Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives Dr. Saleem al-Jubouri in his office.
During the meeting, they discussed the situation of the education sector and means of promoting it. The Speaker stressed that the education sector enjoys the full support of the Iraqi Council of Representatives in order to raise the profile of the Iraqi universities especially with regard to construction, development of laboratories, and raising the efficiency of the work of departments and faculties. The Speaker added: “I assure you that academics’ pensions will remain stable”.
Al-Jubouri urged the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to take the initiative to bring back scientific talent, asserting that the COR will support this initiative no matter what it takes.
On the other hand, the Chancellor of Al-Karkh University of Science Prof. Dr. Thamir Abdul Ameer Hassan stated “The conferees called for the need to provide coordination with the Iraqi Council of Representatives in order to preserve the status of Universities and their academic independence, describing the outcome of the meeting as a victory to the teaching staff in Iraq”.
