
Al-Karkh University of Science holds a symposium on breast cancer awareness.
Al-Karkh University of Science and the Arab Association for Materials Science and Nanotechnology / Iraq Branch, in cooperation with the Breast Cancer Early Detection Clinic at Yarmouk Teaching Hospital, organized a scientific symposium entitled (Be Safe) on breast cancer to diagnose it in the early stages, treat it, and limit its spread in Iraq, with the participation of A number of university teachers and employees.
The symposium aims to raise awareness about breast cancer, focus on the importance of early detection, present important healthy eating habits to prevent the disease, and enhance methods of treating the disease, in addition to scientific and academic consultation on the best global ways to treat the disease.
The symposium included a lecture presented by Professor Dr. Khaled Karim Rajab, President of the Iraqi Society of Surgeons, Dr. Farah Qahtan Mahjoub, and Dr. Venus Muhammad Fadel, breast cancer screening specialists, during which they explained the factors that contribute to the infection of this disease, and the relationship of breast cancer to pregnancy, lack of breastfeeding, and the use of Contraceptive pills and some harmful treatments. Obesity, family medical history, the most important medical tests for rapid detection of the disease, how tests are done for early detection of the disease, the most prominent treatments used and developments in this regard, the role of nutrition and exercise in preventing the disease and the risk factors that increase the probability of infection, as well as how to perform a self-examination to detect the disease.
The symposium recommended the need to educate women about the seriousness of the disease, and for women’s organizations and civil society organizations to participate in the awareness campaign, and to encourage breastfeeding of children, proper nutrition, and maintaining an ideal weight, as they are effective ways to prevent the disease, spread the culture and method of conducting breast self-examination, and applied procedures on how the examination is done.
