In a distinguished scientific and research achievement, Professor Dr. Jumaa Salman Jiyad, President of Al-Karkh University of Science, supervised the doctoral dissertation of researcher Hiba Abdul Ali in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the College of Engineering, Al-Nahrain University. The dissertation addressed the development of the mechanical properties and thermal stability of materials used in manufacturing automotive tires, relying on natural fibers and sustainability principles.

The dissertation was titled:

“Enhancement of the Mechanical Properties and Thermal Stability of Materials Used in Manufacturing Automotive Tires by Using Natural Fibers.”

The researcher achieved outstanding scientific and applied results, culminating in obtaining a patent and publishing four scientific papers in international journals indexed in Clarivate and Scopus. She also published two papers in the proceedings of two international conferences. Furthermore, one of the beneficiaries adopted the research findings and is working to develop the tire industry by utilizing technologies and materials based on sustainability principles and the use of natural fibers.

The President of Al-Karkh University of Science, Professor Dr. Jumaa Salman Jiyad, expressed his delight at this achievement, emphasizing that the researcher's distinguished efforts resulted in a patent and the publication of scientific research in top international journals. He also noted the transition of the research output from the academic sphere to industrial application and utilization.

He pointed out that the researcher's accomplishment represents a model of scientific research that combines innovation, sustainability, and industrial application, underscoring the importance of directing postgraduate studies toward finding applicable scientific solutions that contribute to the development of productive sectors and serve society.

He added that utilizing natural fibers in developing materials used in tire manufacturing represents an important research direction toward achieving sustainability and reducing reliance on traditional materials, thus enhancing opportunities for innovation in engineering industries.

The discussion committee was chaired by Professor Dr. Mohsen Nouri, President of the University of Technology, and included Professor Dr. Mohsen Al-Shammari from the University of Baghdad, Professor Dr. Ahmed Fakhri from Al-Nahrain University, Professor Dr. Yasser Ya'rub from Al-Nahrain University, and Professor Dr. Hala Salman Hassan from Al-Nahrain University.

Following the dissertation defense, researcher Hiba Abdul Ali was awarded a PhD with distinction, in recognition of the dissertation's outstanding academic level, its findings, and its practical and applied research outputs.

At the conclusion of the academic event, the President of Al-Karkh University for Science expressed his sincere gratitude to the President of Al-Nahrain University, Professor Dr. Ali Al-Shawi, and the Dean of the College of Engineering, Professor Dr. Iyad Murad Takhakh, for their warm hospitality and generous reception. He also commended the efforts of all members of Al-Nahrain University in supporting and ensuring the success of this academic event.

This achievement underscores the importance of supporting researchers and graduate students, and strengthening partnerships and integration among Iraqi universities. This collaboration contributes to the production of high-quality scientific research with a tangible impact on society, the economy, and industry, and enhances the presence of Iraqi scientific research in international forums and journals.
